In May this year once again a large-scale architectural event is organized: International Festival CANactions.
An important part of the festival is the workshop, where architects, urban planners, economists, sociologists and anyone interested in the phenomenon of the city can participate. This year theme of the workshop is Telycka, a post-industrial area near down town of Kyiv.
We spoke to the curator of workshop, the Dutch architect and urbanist Theo Hauben. What is the potential he sees in Kiev? How will the city will change in the future? What are the core values of new urban developments?

Transformation of building is not possible in a dogmatic way of financing, application of traditional technique and strict design method. Property owners, builders and designers needs a different attitude. Not value in the short term, but the long-term value is decisive. Not a building system is the starting point, but the existing building dictates the construction method. Architects must release the modernist adage: form follows function is now (possible) functions follows form.
