Souper #80

For our last diner of 2016 were writer-journalist Pieter van Os (NRC) and architect Arna Mačkić (Studio Arna Mackic) guest at restaurant Huson. A very exciting evening with two people who can observe intense, listen carefully and tell wonderful.

Peter is not happy in his home, getting around is his attitude. He was born in Groningen and studied in Leiden, Minneapolis and Barcelona. He was a correspondent for De Groene Amsterdammer in the US and now he as correspondent in Poland for the Dutch newspaper NRC. Peiter's expert on international relations and global financial flows, but he also has knowledge of realist painters from Groningen and Catholic architects in Spain. He connects in his stories on an original way facts, history, social structures and cultural background of the people involved.

Arna Mačkić with her parents, sister and brother fled from Bosnia to the Netherlands. Her personal history influenced tremendously her professional development as an architect. According Arna's architecture and urban design ignores the history of a particular city or place often. In her work she wants to draw attention to the complete story. Therefore she explores forgotten facts, obsolete rituals and hidden sociological conditions. By implementing this in her work the history of the specific location is a fruitful tool for the future.

Pieter as Arna had striking similarities. They deal with social issues in which they connect the past, present and future.

Daan Bakker (Daf-architecten), Jeroen de Willigen (DeZwarteHond), Jasper de Haan (architect) and I invite each month a number of colleagues to eat, drink and discuss about our profession, the city of Rotterdam and related matters.
